Lead UX/UI Designer

February 2021 – June 2022

Enterprise SaaS / Pet Food Manufacturing

Leading design across 20+ factory applications for one of North America's largest pet food producers, reducing onboarding time and improving productivity across facilities nationwide.

Background

My role as Lead UX Designer working for Purina Petcare via Imaginet was to design all interfaces and iteractions for a suite of applications used in pet food production. Working remotely with a development house, I led the Analysis and Design team on reimagining factory support software for a modern workplace. Through user research and best practice implementation, my designs helped improve the work flow and productivity across dozens of factories in the USA.

RESEARCH & PLANNING

Through stakeholder and user interviews, I created a set of personas for each application to best understand our target user groups. UX/UI assets such as personas and screen designs helped guide functional requirements and role definitions through the development cycle. Looking at legacy applications and conversing with users allowed me to accurately map out the tasks completed in each application.

design systems & DEVELOPMENT

For working on a suite of applications, I created a robust design system of styles, patterns and components to be used in application design. Once designs were iterated on and approved by the Purina Product Team, I worked closely with developers to oversee the build of each application. Through detailed annotations and handoff meetings, my designs were thoroughly understood and executed with minimal QA and change of scope.

IMPACT

  • Redesigned 20+ factory applications used across Purina production facilities throughout the USA
  • Reduced onboarding time for factory workers by simplifying complex workflows and creating intuitive, consistent interactions
  • Built a robust design system of reusable components and patterns, significantly reducing design and development time across the application suite
  • Close collaboration with developers through detailed annotations and handoff meetings meant designs were executed accurately with minimal QA and change of scope
  • User research conducted directly with factory floor workers ensured designs reflected real working conditions and task demands, not just stakeholder assumptions
